Since the media backlash hit furiously against the Susan G. Komen Foundation for giving into right-wing fanatics,
the Susan G. Komen Foundation has backpedaled on its initial decision to defund Planned Parenthood today. What this has taught us is how quickly progressive activists can organize against organizations like the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and it revealed the hidden right-wing agenda of the foundation.
Here's a note of caution from Defund the Komen Foundation on Facebook:
The official statement issued was that they will "honor existing grants" (which only means they won't demand the already granted money back) and that PP is free to apply again in the future - to which Handel already stated publicly yesterday that even if they apply again, they are unlikely to give them anymore grants due to much of PP's mammography services being referrals to off-site radiology labs and that they are, quote: "moving away from 'pass-through' services."
Even though they've reconsidered their decision to defund Planned Parenthood, there's still no word on their lack of support for breast cancer research using stem cells that could find a cure for millions of women. Please feel free to use the infographic I designed below to spread the word about what happened between the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Planned Parenthood.
