At its heart, what is the purpose of so-called Obamacare? It is a shot gun wedding of sorts in a capitalist world, between those needing medical services and the medical providers, between patients and doctors and medical centers.
Using the capitalist conventions of insurance companies, employers, employees, the unemployed, and private health care providers, the Obama administration with the help largely of the Democratic members of Congress attempted to plan a shot gun wedding for the young folks already expecting a child, the sick, and those managing health conditions and the health care industry as it presently exists.
The problem as many see it, is that Joe and Jane Taxpayer don't want to bring a wedding present to the young couple. They already had their wedding or don't expect to get married for a long time, or maybe never officially tie the knot.
But the problem is the baby, the basic human need for health care, in routine and emergency situations is already conceived. We thought a wedding between mom and dad might set up a framework for responsible and continued care for the newborn.
Now the Supreme Court is considering pulling the plug on the celebration of a bond and a couple that wants to formalize the relationship, for better or for worse. They, the Supreme Court justices, are discussing whether the invites will be thrown out and the early wedding presents returned (covering pre-existing conditions and college age children, e.g.).
Is that the American Way, the American Political Tradition, to have SCOTUS scuttle this marriage and cancel the wedding as planned?
I don't think so. Tune in this June 2012 to find out what SCOTUS has decided.
