Yes we won at trial and on appeal. Now the battle moves to the Supreme Court. We must not lose there.
The reading of the play is now posted at AFER's YouTube Channel
There are so many battles raging around us right now from fighting the Keystone XL pipeline to getting Rush's sponsors to stop advertising on his show. Here's something that we can all do that will A) make a huge difference in support on Marriage Equality, and B) is a great way to spend ninety minutes.
Prop 8 was ruled unconstitutional but it is now headed to the Supreme Court. We cannot lose there. The forces behind Prop 8 have been successful in keep what really happened at trial from the public, so the play '8' was created. So it is vital that we all watch the reading of this play and then share it as widely as we can — which should be easy because it is a delight. After seeing fear and bigotry put on trial and forced to sit in witness stand under cross examination, no one can oppose marriage equality without knowing that they are doing so out of bigotry and nothing else. With electoral challenges to marriage equality coming in Washington and Maryland, it's important that everyone see this play. And it's wonderful to watch!!!!
The play was written by Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black and is taken directly from the transcripts. This production is directed by Rob Reiner. Brad Pitt is Judge Walker. George Clooney is David Boies, Martin Sheen is Ted Olsen. It's an amazing all star cast reading the play. Seriously amazing. Don't take my word for it, read this review. Though this is a reading, it's superb. We watched it last night as it streamed live. We cheered along with the live audience at Martin Sheen's powerful reenactment of Ted Olsen's closing argument. We laughed over and over as Clooney(David Bois) and Pitt (Judge Walker) took on the defenders of Prop 8's star witness (and their only witness) David Blankenhort (brilliantly played by the incomparable John C. Reilly) using only the actual trial transcript.
The whole thing runs about two hours and starts with a review of the greatest hits from the entire Prop 8 battle before the actors take the stage. All you have to do is watch it, then 'like' it and share it via Facebook and Twitter. And tell your friends and family. Watching great theater snuggled up on the couch with your sweetie will also strengthen relationship. You don't have to call anyone, donate any money, or sign any petition. Just watch and share! 30,000 people watched it last night live. Let's make it a million.
