I know, I know...horrifying as it sounds, I really want to thank Rush Limbaugh for being his usual repellant, misogynistic self and falling all over himself to once again jump on the Republican War on Women bandwagon.
If Rush hadn't decided to use Sandra Fluke for a verbal punching bag, the Republican War on Women would have still gotten notice, but I think Rush took it to a higher level. Without his disgusting attacks on Sandra Fluke -- that many of us have taken personally -- the Issa hearing, without any women allowed to speak, might have faded more quickly into the background of public consciousness. The total disrespect shown by Rush towards women -- ALL women -- keeps the issue in the forefront of public notice, and the pressure being brought to bear on his advertisers shows that we have the power to hit back, and doesn't it feel good?!?
As a woman, I am so proud of Sandra Fluke and how she's responded to the insults and name-calling, which she certainly didn't ask for!
As a human being, I'm so ashamed that Rush Limbaugh is part of the same species.
I wish Rush didn't even exist on radio/tv/wherever he spews the verbal vomit that is his shtick. I wish, for Sandra Fluke's sake, that he had never started this slut-shaming exercise.
But, now that he has, I have to thank him for bringing the issue the needed publicity and high profile that puts a spotlight on the Republican War on Women. The more people realize where it's coming from, the better.
So, thanks, Rush! [Words I NEVER thought I'd be writing...]
(...and now I think I need another shower...)
