in what I did with my life.
Before i became a teacher I chose to work in local government rather than the private sector for that reason
I became a public school teacher to make a difference
Now I wrestle with what I will do after this school year:
.. should I continue in my current classroom?
.. should I retired from where I am and teach elsewhere?
.. should I leave the classroom and try to serve in education elsewhere?
.. should I work elsewhere in politics or in government?
.. should I move to the non-profit sector?
I honestly do not know. One possible door has closed, but I do not view that as limiting, merely that it means I can turn with greater focus to other possibilities.
I have tried in my writing to make a difference: before there was a pundit watch or he had won a Pulitzer, I tried to draw people's attention to the writings of Eugene Robinson.
I have similar tried to draw attention to the writing of the likes of Connie Schultz, Michael Smerconish, Derrick Jackson, Colbert King, Katrina vanden Heuvel, Bob Herbert.
I have also tried to education - about education, about human rights, about economics, about music, about all sorts of things about which i am passionate.
I am getting old
I am tired, worn down, but not yet ready to give up.
You will never see a GBCW from me.
I may from time to time not post - other things might be more important, like my teaching while i remain in the classroom, like issues within our families.
So long as I breathe I have to try to make a difference.
That is why I go to Wise and Grundy and elsewhere to volunteer in dental triage at free medical/dental events.
It is why I keep writing.
It is why I stay active in politics.
I thank this community for being willing to read what I write, for being willing to listen to what I have to say.
As I thank the community for what you offer back to me - not only support, but words and thoughts that challenge me.
I do not know how much of a difference I make.
But this site constantly reminds me of the value of trying.
Thank you.
Peace.
I will be 66 in late May.
