Good evening, all. Tonight I'm taking the opportunity to announce that this will be the last regularly appearing R&BLers newsletter that I will write. They've been coming to you each TUE at this time for over a year, and it's time to retire the old war horse of Readers and Book Lovers Group.
This series was designed to launch R&BLers and help endow it with a consistent voice. As well, it has been the venue where news, announcements, and changes were consistently presented. R&BLers has become a stable group that has outgrown its infancy and is toddling around Daily Kos very nicely, thank you. Consequently, the care, feeding and attention normally devoted to infant ventures is no longer required. In fact, it's important to let go when an enterprise is self-sustaining. And so I am letting go.
I consider R&BLers well launched and well attended by the best and most devoted writers and readers that grace Daily Kos. I expect it will only get better! As long as there are people who love books -- no matter their form -- and people who love to read them -- no matter their tastes -- we will always have plenty of material and abundant audience for what R&BLers provides.
I'm not going to completely disappear, only step to the back row of the chorus from where I can still keep my eye on operations, returning to the front of the stage when need be, such as when changes are made to the schedule, when R&BLers seeks new directions, and when I feel like sharing with everyone a literary experience about which I something to say.
Please turn the page.
As R&BLers has grown and changed, so have I. Because of some of those changes, the time that I have to "pay attention" to the Group is diminishing compared to the time I once could devote to this undertaking twelve months ago. I find that due to real life, my schedule is now being sustained in different ways that make it more difficult for me to spend the hours here that I once did.
But I am not leaving the stage entirely, and certainly not the theater. Instead, I shall probably be moving more into the library. ;^) Rest assured, I'll be checking in, trying to respond to messages within 48 hours; taking suggestions for new series; handling housekeeping duties as needed, and participating in as many diaries as a commenter that I can.
I will continue to depend on our excellent set of Admins, our superb coterie of Editors, and the "stable" of Contributors who are the real backbone of Readers & Book Lovers Group. Extraordinary people are you all, to bother to bring to life so ephemeral a community that is based on the most abstract notion that there are people whose love of books and reading prompts them to tell others about it and/or to read what someone has to say about this strange and most delightful of pastimes even when they aren't in the same room together. Lovely.
Enough said. Here's the goods.
