Before all the signatures are dry on the many ballot petitions to run in Maine's upended Senate race due to the strong entry of former Independent Governor Angus King, the National Republican Senatorial Committee decided to just unload on him implying that he has made a back room deal with Democrats.
This is obviously just a cheap web video and it remains to be seen if after sifting through the pailful of poor Republican candidates now racing around for signatures if the national GOP will put any real money into the Maine Senate race to rip down Independent King or the eventual Democratic nominee.
One might think that peeling possible moderate Republican voters who do like King away from him by emphasizing a bigger GOP tent would be a smarter move than unloading on King at this point. But then again, that would be “smarter.”
The GOP did make sure they were the first to lower the bar.
