Even though tornadoes are moving all around Oklahoma, overhead, I see stars. I'd take a picture, but my little new camera can't handle star shots.
We have wind. Lots of wind.
Last night was a different story and I'll share with you just how funny it was.
Apparently, the tornado sirens went off about 2:00 this morning and Itzl, being the good boy he is, alerted. So did Xoco. But instead of thinking "tornado", I thought, "Hector has to pee."
So I took all the dogs outside to pee at 2:00 this morning under the tornado sirens. Itzl looked at me like I was insane, but he obediently peed in the rain. Xoco watched him, then peed herself. Hector was clueless, but we stayed outside until he caved and peed, too. When I took everyone back inside and dried them off, instead of taking everyone to the safe place, I crated Hector (he's still under semi isolation until his next set of puppy shots, to protect his health and Itzl and Xoco's health), which Itzl thoroughly approved, and then - oh horrors! I took him and Xoco to bed!
He prowled up and down the bed, worrying until, I guess, the sirens turned off. Then he settled down to sleep.
Talking to a friend this morning, she asked how we handled the tornado sirens during the night and that's when I realized that Itzl didn't need to pee, he was alerting!
I felt so silly.
The tornado was actually off in Piedmont, which is a few miles north of me so we were actually quite safe and didn't need to take shelter.
Today, the predicted bad weather has yet to materialize locally, even though it's supposedly still on the way here.
We spent some time this morning down in Norman helping friends chainsaw up trees and cleaning up their messes. No one I know had any damage to their homes or vehicles, just tree limbs down and a few trees uprooted.
This afternoon, we had the OctopodiCon Tea on Lighter Than Air Ships, and built helium balloons with gondolas. It was too windy outdoors to race them and indoors the air currents were so weird we ended up just playing with them instead of racing them after all. We laughed and had a good time.
Since the weather was still dry but windy, I went down to the Oklahomasque Costumer's Guild meeting, where we discussed how to pimp shoes and stockings, then proceeded to talk about the Day at the Derby Hat Contest, which we plan to enter with our fancy steampunk hats. We also talked about the corsets we were currently working on, and the MedFair costumes we'd seen and worn. We covered costuming from head to toe.
The coffee shop where we were meeting closed early in anticipation of the bad weather that has still to materialize, so I was able to mow the back yard. If it doesn't rain tonight, I'll be able to mow the front yard tomorrow.
When I took the dogs outside to pee a few minutes ago, I looked up and saw stars over my house. Like yesterday when I got home from work, there were dense clouds all around, but none directly overhead.
If the tornado sirens go off tonight, I promise I'll listen to Itzl and if I take the dogs out to pee, I'll then take them in to the safe place and turn on the news or the computer to see what's happening.
