Aaaaah, election years. As if keeping up with Washington's shenanigans weren't already a full-time endeavor, we now have 50 states, some with almost as many Congressional races, to track. California has 53 all to itself, not counting Feinstein's Senate bid.
Naturally, we're all solidly behind Elizabeth Warren. We know all about her and her politics and how important that Senate seat is. But what of all the other races going on elsewhere? Who is in contention for, say, Colorado's 4th District? Maybe some of those lesser-known races present easier pick-up opportunities or better ROI and deserve a little more activist focus.
But with all the elections happening across the country, how are we to keep apprised of all of them? Well, I'm hoping we can get a "State of the States" series started here to provide handy-dandy references for just that! Please join me below the divider-doodle.
What I am on about is the desire to have diaries like this and this for every state. It looks like the California diary hit the rec list, but fell off before it inspired other Kossacks to write similar diaries for their own states.
So here I am, writing this diary in the hopes that we can get this kind of local flavor info on all the races. Think of it as a 50-state strategy on steroids. I think this kind of information will be invaluable this election season, given how critically important downticket wins are.
I know a lot of people here are less-than-thrilled with Obama and, while committing to voting for him in November, don't want to donate or campaign for him. A resource like this would be invaluable in helping people decide where they do want to give support. And together, we can all re-elect Obama and deliver progressive Congressional/state-level support.
So who's with me? For those who are with me, please help me sort some logistics. I think the less "supervised" the effort, the better, so I have proposed a team system below. In Darth Jeff's diary, it was suggested we should also look at State legislature races. I think that's a great idea as well; should that be a separate team?
If you like this idea and wish to participate:
If your state isn't covered in the comments section yet, please post a comment with your state named in the subject line. People who want to be on that state's team should reply to the comment. From there it can be decided amongst the team who is doing what. The ultimate goal being that we end up with a diary for every state, like this and this.
Also, do we want to include all Governorships in play right now? If so, can we get away with one diary on that? Let's just set up a Governor team as well and see what happens.
Maybe I'm just a big ol' nerd, but I think a diary series like this would be way rad. What say you?
