Storms rolling through your neighborhood and clubhouse can be more exciting. There is no nasty morning after lungs from smoking too much trying to stay calm in the middle of it all.
The trick for me to give up smoking was to find some things to replace knee jerk habits that go along with the whole nico-thing. [Open the pack, tap one out, light up, etc. etc. etc.]
I quit cold turkey twice back in the last millennium, for three and four years. So I had to learn the Jedi Mind Tricks back then, but I knew that they worked and would help no matter which way I tried it this time. I either stopped whatever I was doing and focused my entire attention on the craving, causing it to banish itself [seriously], or completely ignored the craving very diligently, and learned to ignore it in a Zen way where I didn't give it much energy. Then, it is just a matter of a little time, turning into a bigger time. Somebody pointed out to beware of the terrible threes; three days, three weeks, three months; and that actually seems to have a little truth even if it doesn't happen exactly at those moments, it is close enough in timing to help you be strong for a couple extra moments then. Before you know it, almost a year will have gone by and you feel like you can start breathing freely, that you have succeeded. You will have, just don't have a cigarette like I did, after three years or four years. You could go right back to a pack a day in 24 hours, just like I did. I am hoping I remember this time and the third time is the charm. It is.

One of the things I did to distract myself from cravings is everything else. Eat a little more, eat a little more chocolate, drink a little more ale, work with more focus and energy, do dishes more often, clean the whole kitchen more regularly, take more walks, listen to more music over the internet.....A lot of these things fade quickly. Eating more didn't last too long, chocolate was a short term replacement too. India Pale Ale took a little longer but is now starting to fade. The good habits are holding and getting stronger since I have more oxygen in the bloodstream. And the music.....
Slow....
Faster...
A bit faster...
Rilly fast!!!
Now let's start to slow it down a little......
Slower....
And now nap time....
