The Amercia bit is priceless. Another hit from the Mitt that Won't Quit.
Trees. Trumps. Cadillacs. Firing people.
Freaking hit after hit like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in the day. Nobody is this much of a natural genius.
Nobody... Hmmm...
Is it possible? Is this too good to be true?
For months Mitt Romney’s campaign has carefully crafted an image of him as a “mischievous,” “wild and crazy” and “disobedient” prankster.
“There’s a wild and crazy man in there.”
“Actually, Mitt is a very funny guy.”
What if Mrs. R and company aren't "crafting an image" to vaseline the lenses that turned to the story of Mitt's attack on John Lauber? What if this isn't some "narrative" effort to humanize a painfully dull and awkward candidate?
What if Ann Romney is trying to warn us?
The presidential-campaign-as-performance art has a long and rich history, from Pat Paulsen to Herman Cain, one that Mitt Romney, the son of a serious presidential candidate, has surely studied.
What if that jokester Mitt saw all the wacky antics a faux campaign can gin up and said, "By gosh, that's my kind of hijinks!"
What could stop the old scamp? Campaigns are really little more than hiring the right pros and doing what they tell you. And he's damn sure got the money, having pulled a lot of similar shucks in the private sector. ("You know what would be a panic? If we pretended we were going to build this company, and instead, you know, just pantsed it in public and took off with its money...").
And, golly, what a romp, eh? Tearing around the country saying things nobody believes and doing it with a straight face. Doing weird schtick like, "I like the height of these trees!" Going on FOX and making even them scratch their heads.
And... oh, my gosh... SECRET SERVICE PROTECTION! This is brilliant! Get me some paper...
I'm not saying I believe Dennis the Mittnace is taking the GOP, the press and the whole country on a billion-dollar snipe hunt.
But nobody's this good by accident. All I'm saying.
