When I read that Cornel West called President Obama "a disastrous response to a catastrophe" in a recent interview published on the Huffington Post, it was more than I could stand. This dude is acting like an angry stalker who wants to publicly embarrass and bring down someone who he believes dissed him by rejecting his overzealous overtures.
Talk about a 5th grade mindset. And this guy is supposed to be a scholar?
Here's an exerpt from that Huff Post article:
When asked his opinion of President Barack Obama's first term thus far, West said the current commander-in-chief is "much much better than Mitt Romney" but the rest of his assessment wasn't exactly glowing.
"Mitt Romney is a catastrophic response to a catastrophe, whereas Obama is a disastrous response to a catastrophe. Is disaster better than catastrophe? Yes it is. I wish we had a third candidate who could actually do something, but we don't at the moment," West said.
I liken West to an angry stalker because reportedly during 2008, he claims to have traveled to 65 campaign events for the presidential candidate. But West complains that he was not given inauguration tickets for his brother and mother and that Obama did not return his phone calls. That begs the questions: Did he do what he did in expectation of something? And if he had gotten those tickets and other considerations, would he still be so critical of the President?
I'm sure there are thousands, if not millions, of people who contact the President of the United States and don't get a personal response. Get over yourself Dr. West. What you reportedly told the Huffington Post is the equivalent of the tepid, almost mocking "endorsement" Mitt Romney just got from Newt Gingrich.
The so-called scholar Cornel West goes way too far in his criticisms of the President. It's not so much that he's been critical. It's the snarky way he says things and his probable motivation for being so negative and mean-spirited in his observations. You know Dr. West, sometimes if you don't have anything good to say, just don't say sh!t. West has become to the President what Gingrich is to Romney.
