I feel compelled to find the best simple message needed to sell/explain the need to re-elect President Obama. We need message discipline for the progressive choice of Obama, and no political pundits, to my knowledge, have clearly spelled it out yet.
The economic troubles we are now suffering are complicated. Its causation and its solution are not easily contained in sound bites.
The various urgent problems pressing on the dwindling middle class of America are many.
The salient problems of our contemporary times don't fit on a postcard: like enriched public education that serves all students and tackling our energy needs (and going beyond old fossil fuel sources, as well) and rebuilding our weak and crumbling infrastructure from coast to coast.
I do not have the answer. But I would like to start the brainstorming here and now.
Initial ideas I had today:
1. Nothing New, Re-Run Romney.
2. No Return to Trickle-Down Policies.
3. Prosperity is not Trickling Down to the Working Middle Class.
4. How Different is the Romney Plan from the Bush Disaster?
5. If you believe in Trickle-Down Economics, vote for Romney.
6. Romney is an empty suit; Obama is a proven leader.
7. Romney promises to Repeat the Mistakes of the Past.
8. How to Grow the Economy, How to Create Good Jobs, How to Pay Down our
Debts. (is the Choice in this Election)
9. We Can't Afford to Jeopardize our Future, by Repeating the Mistakes of our Past.
(direct from Obama's Ohio speech on June 14, 2012)
10. Building Wealth for a Favored Few, Does not Automatically bring Prosperity to
the Many. That is the reality of Romney and Republican economic policies.
(think about that: that's just common sense: most wealthy businessmen don't
want to give away the fruits of their hard labor)
11. Romney promises to increase taxes for the middle class and the poor (the free
loaders that earn too little to pay any tax, currently) and continue the huge
tax breaks for the richest folk. As a result, Romney plans to cut drastically the
domestic spending that helps the poor, old, and unemployed who are ready
and willing to work.
(i.e. Reverse Robin Hood says Robert Reich)
12. We Need to Reverse the Long Term Erosion of Middle Class Jobs and Middle
Class Incomes. There are not enough customers for business if most folks are
having such a hard time, and have less and less buying power, to buy fewer
and fewer goods.
(The Great Divergence, by Timothy Noah)
13. Two terms of Democratic President Clinton's policies built up our economy,
and created a wonderful surplus. The following two terms of Republican policies
under President Bush, depleted our economy, and built growing debt that we
are still struggling to pay down. (Two Unpdfor Wars, unpdfor Medicare Rx plan,
Large Tax Cuts for the very rich, also unpdfor)
President Obama is following the President Clinton policies to not only turn-
around the Recession of 2008, which included an Historic Crash of the Housing
Market Bubble and a Total Freezing of our Global Banking System, but to also
re-build the economy using Clinton principles, with the reluctant participation
of the Republican Congress people, refusing to cooperate for the good of the
whole nation.
(good ideas, too many words, not concise enough).
14. We remember. We rebuild. We come back stronger. (every time).
15. Running fast in the wrong direction is not the answer.
16. It's Easy to Spot a Problem; It's Harder to Solve It.
17. Electing Mitt Romney would be Insane; Returning to the Wrong Policies all
over again and expecting a Successful Result.
18. Beware, Mitt Romney is all Hat and No Cattle.
19. I take Mitt Romney's speech seriously, and it terrifies me.
20. President Obama is a proven leader I can trust; Mitt Romney is a dangerous
elitist who is being backed by rich power-brokers who want to mold the
future to create more success for them and their buddies.
