This is my statement regarding the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel-Politifact’s article on Congressman Sean Duffy’s vote for the Republican budget bills that would essentially end the Medicare guarantee for seniors while giving tax breaks to millionaires and job outsourcers.
“Congressman Duffy voted to end Medicare as it has existed for decades by wrongfully forcing seniors to pay $6000 more out of their pockets just so millionaires and corporate outsourcers can get another tax break. That is right and Congressman Duffy’s vote is wrong. Congressman Duffy has the wrong priorities for balancing our budget. Medicare can and should continue to exist with changes that do not remove the guarantee of health security for America’s retirees.
“This article acknowledges the budget that Congressman Duffy supports would ‘dramatically’ and ‘significantly’ change Medicare. It acknowledges that Congressman Duffy voted to end the program as it currently exists and replace it with vouchers and partial privatization. Its writer notes the fact that coverage would become more costly to the elderly. It admits that seniors would be insured by private companies rather than the current guarantee of insurance that comes from the federal government.”
