I know it's been forever since I've posted here, (not even sure how many here would remember me) but things haven't been so great around these parts. Work--don't get me started. (Currently, nonexistent.) Then there was the past October when I had to be rushed to the ER. Apparently (so I'm told) I very nearly died and got to the hospital in the nick of time. Spent a full work week in the hospital.
Three months ago I lost my best friend, Brady (my collie). He was about 15, so I guess that was a good run, but it still hurts, doesn't it. Today I learned that a friend of mine (both real life and on Facebook) had to put his 12 year old golden retriever to sleep. Ouch.
Buddy's human companion has stated on Facebook that he would prefer not to have his Facebook inbox filled with messages of sympathy. So I am doing my best to respect that, and not including his name here. Nonetheless, if you would like to express your support--especially if you've "been there" and lost a beloved pet, you can click this link and light a virtual candle in memory/honor of Buddy. You are given the option of "signing" your candle, but are limited to 5 letters/characters. (So I kind of lucked out having a name that is exactly 5 letters long--as did Buddy.)
Click on a candle that is not already lit, and you may leave a brief message if you wish.
The message is optional--I think the real power of this page is the visual impact of seeing the support that is pouring out from so many people, from so many places. The internet can seem really impersonal at times, but there is also something tremendously powerful and beautiful about the way it can bring people together. And the way we can rally together and lift each other up in times of need. For me, that makes it less intangible and nebulous--and much more REAL and human.
