Apparently, today the House of Representatives will vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of congress, for failing to turn over to congress Dept. of Justice files regarding the Fast and Furious case.
Should Mr. Holder be found in contempt of congress, he will join a majority of Americans who already have a great deal of contempt for congress.
Today, Americans' approval rating of congress is around 9%, indicating that approximately 90% of Americans have some degree of contempt for congress.
Currently, Americans have a better opinion of communism, the BP oil spill, and polygamy than they do of congress. Americans give the BP oil spill of 2011 a 16% approval rating, 11% of Americans have a favorable opinion of polygamy, and the prospect of American becoming communist was also seen as favorably by 11% of Americans. In fact, surveys show that Americans only see one thing as more contemptible than congress, and that is Fidel Castro, who gets a 5% approval rating from Americans (see survey results - here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/...).
So if AG Holder is found to be in contempt of congress, he will be in good company..
Why is congress seen as contemptible by so many Americans? Perhaps it is because congress has not yet passed a jobs bill to put more Americans back to work. Perhaps it is because congress refuses to vote on a budget until after the November elections. Perhaps it is because congress lets the NRA decide gun laws and who should be investigated for violating them.
Being found in contempt by one of the most contemptible might actually raise Eric Holder's approval ratings. Kind of like being on the Nixon's enemies list.
