Like many, I am greatly pleased that the A.C.A. was upheld by the SCOTUS. I felt the legislation was perfectly constitutionally sound from day one, but was under no illusion about the reach and persuasion powers of the US Chamber of Commerce, the K Street Insurance lobbyists, and the general Pubbie windmill.
But, as the post decision hurricane promised by the Republicans, and particularly the verbal BM from Eric Cantor displays, is that information to the public is critical.
this is the point of this diary.
It is going to take more than Cenk and Eliot, and Jennifer on Current TV and maybe Al, Ed and Rachel and Lawrence on MSNBC to get this message out. Let's jump.
It will require advertising dollars to get the message out about how the ACA is not a "world shaking" tax increase, not a massive intrusion, and is about as scary as a social security check that arrives on time.
True information must get out about who has to pay the penalty that so frightens so many. Misinformation has caused hysteria about who will be penalized and it is going to take massive outreach to counteract this campaign of lies. Today I learned only about 2% of the public will be required to pay the freeloader penalty....poor folks will have access to insurance through an expansion of Medi-Care. To qualify for the penalty you have to have the means to have insurance, but decline to buy such coverage, then you are socked with the penalty.
I just saw Marco Rubio running off at the mouth. Here's Cantor again lying his ass off. (Eliot Spitzer's viewpoint lead in}
What are we doing? Are we to rely on John Fuglesang, or Cenk, or Rachel? Folks, we can't. They are known, but do not have the reach of the trad med that played along with the Pubbies or the right wing noise machine.
We need an advertising blitz via TV and direct mail. Otherwise, the good points are going to be drowned out by a trad med that tried, during the run-up to make everyone bite their nails over how extreme the Supremes really were and how noisily the ACA would be struck down. This trad med will NOT tell the truth, so, we must.
This will not be inexpensive, but we need to step up and tell people about the good points in the ACA, of which there are several, for the more the public, OUR PUBLIC knows about this act, the more that they like it. The more they know, the better it is for our President.
Please Democratic avisors and specialists, we need help with this and that damn soon! The Pubbies are not waiting to measure their lie campaign!
