I need an anti-dote to Right wing comment sections on sports sites. To that end, I'm interested in starting an 8 to 12 team DKos Dynasty Fantasy Football league. A Dynasty league is a "keeper" league that allows you to keep all your players from year to year unless traded or waived. It's like being a GM, as a you have to balance need and value and make decisions about youth and potential versus "winning now" with veterans. If you are a football fanatic it is a far more rewarding experience than a redraft league or one year league.
I'd need 7 or 11 others (no more) that would be willing to make a multi-year commitment to drafting and updating of rosters. We'd have to have one big draft this year (24 rounds) and then a much smaller rookie draft next year (4-6 rounds). We could also have "co-owners" for those whose work or family might sometimes get in the way.
If you are interested, keep reading.
I'd propose the following roster and scoring set up.
Starters (13 total)
QB -
RB -
RB -
WR -
WR -
WR -
TE -
TE -
Flex -
Flex -
OP -
Def -
K -
Reserve Players (11 total)

OP can be QB, RB, TE, WR
Flex can be RB, TE, WR
Standard FF scoring rules. It would be a points per reception (PPR) league reference WRs, TEs, and RBs. That makes it more realistic than just ground and pound.
I've done this before. The draft could be held in a thread created here, and then we would each input our players into the ESPN system which would do the scoring for us on game days. Or we could hold the draft at ESPN or FleaFlicker.
I'd take care of a lot of the legwork to get this going.
I would suggest a maximum of 24 hours per pick, with the loss of the pick the penalty for going over the allotted time. A "Big Board" sent to another trusted GM to pick in your place is a good hedge against losing picks if your life is busy or hectic. Under this format an initial draft takes two weeks to two months, with subsequent rookie drafts taking a few hours to a few days. Google Docs (spreadsheet) is good for keeping track of picks and picking order during the initial big draft.
Another option, suggested by jbou, is a lightening draft, one minute per pick for 24 rounds, with the initial draft done in around 3 hours. We'd have to find a time that 8 or 12 people are all free.
Whatever we do, the initial draft will be extremely important as it will determine the course of your franchise for years to come.
Any takers?
