Here's my solution to returning veterans issues and border immigration.
As i see it we have thousands of returning vets who are tramatized and spiritually wounded thanks to repeated tours, a dismal economy without jobs, and outdated skills.
We have fear mongering legislators in border states and congress.
So i propose that the military place lazy boy recliners side by side - say 6 ft. apart from the Gulf to California. Under tents to protect from the sun, but since these men and women have been climitized they won't need air conditioning. They can sit there, for 2 hour stretches and guard the border. 24/7/365
Now what will they be doing during that 2 hours bored to pieces?
Well i suggest that their other 6 hour work detail, they should attend classes using their Veterans benefits toward getting the degree, certification or training in the field of their choice. Addtionally psycological treatment with ptsd and decompression therapy would be mandetory. Then they could use that 2 hours of time sitting in the
quiet to study, do homework, work on their mental health.
After their tour of "duty" getting well, getting their degrees they can muster out with the VA guaranteeing a job in their chosen field. the only tax credit for business I would bet every one in the country would agree to fund. I think transferring the billions given to the oil industry to this particular segment of the Immigration department would be acceptable.
This would also placate the border states in their over wrought rhetoric regarding the hordes of Mexicans sneaking into the country, and be more logical than building some
more fence.
It may just be too simple of an idea, because you know in reality the "talk" about helping the veterans and solving the immigration issue is just that - talk.
