Talking about the economy beginning of the year and you would believe the government was on the right track to economic recovery. Well, a report released on Friday showing a plummeting in jobs created in the last two months has seen the Obama administration come under heavy criticism especially from the Republican party.
The unemployment rate went up from 8.1% to 8.2% of which Obama blamed on the fallout from the on going eurozone crisis and the rising fuel prices. Speaking at a rally in Minnesota, Obama attacked Congress for passing just a few parts of a jobs-bill not all that would see job-creation measures created.
"There's no excuse for that. Not when so many people are still looking for work, not when so many people are struggling to pay the bills," Obama said. "The economy is growing again, but it is not growing fast enough. Our businesses have created almost 4.3m new jobs over the past 27 months, but as we learned in this week's jobs report, we're not creating them fast enough."
Just as the elections are drawing nearer and nearer, this news is bound to affect Obama's re-election campaign. According to Romney, the economy will be a major factor toward how voters will vote. Romney said the negative figures were down to Obama's policies.
"The president's policies and his handling of the economy has been dealt a harsh indictment," Romney said in an interview just after the report was released.
"In many respects their policies have it harder for the economy to recover."
The Romney campaign just got a reprieve in the polls showing a fall in Obama's chances in his re-election bid from 57.7% to 56%.
