I gotta admit to some mixed feelings at being back here tonight. While doing this diary is tremendous fun for me & an island of sanity in a "red state," it also means I'm back from arguably one of the best vacations I've ever had.
If you ever EVER get the chance to go to the National Civil Rights Museum, GO.
I have a story to share from the visit later on in the comments.
Hubby & I have been to Sun Studio before, but a return trip is always a blast! :D
I got splashed by some big 'ol fish at the Memphis Botanic Garden, and a host of other pics & stories will follow. :D
Let's cover some "this day in history." On this date in 1951, my most favorite fav book of all time, The Catcher in the Rye, was published! :D That book began my ornery career. ;D On this date in 1964, in accepting the Republican presidential nomination in San Francisco, Barry M. Goldwater said
extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice
and
moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
In today's GOBP, he'd be a DFH librul.
Now, it's time for SPARK - best fried chicken ON THE PLANET style!
Here's an interesting bit of censorship. Huck Finn is rather racist, but Twain was just writing about those kind of relationships at that time. I just think the book is unreadable & sucks. $aint $arah from Wasilla better not make those FL grifting plans quite yet. ;D Finally, this woman's seen Blazing Saddles 1 - too - many times. :D
On with The Rachel Maddow Show!
"The Odds are Good, but the Goods are Odd" - US Olympians are practicing near China - the ones heading to London in a couple weeks? Huh? {Damn audio & video feed is skipping again. *&^%$#@!} OK, so this is about gambling in China that's supposed to be illegal but is a stone's throw away? Gambling became so successful there; there's more gambling there now. These poor casinos' fortunes landed on double - zero since the economic collapse. The brainz behind these ideas even lent a gazillion dollars of his own money to keep things afloat. We can't bribe foreign governments or officials to get our way? Since when?! Pirate Rupert's been doing that for decades! So, what's the point of this segment? Did Bain Capital have something to do with all this China gambling stuff? Steve Engelberg's in studio to chat up gambling in China...or something.
[OK, I'm gonna try restarting my computational device to see if the glitches clear up. Please provide any missing details in the comments.]
"See You in Tampa" - Y'all will see me in Tampa when $aint $arah from Wasilla gets a Ph.D in nuclear physics. Are Rep. Paul & his minions still prepping to make mischief in a few weeks? Man, I hope so! ;D Lawyers have apparently gotten involved now to prevent such mischief; well, they're no fun, are they!
"Spitting Into the Wind" - THAT'S a lovely image. ;D The uber - rich "progressive" types are finally giving to SuperPACs like the MENSA folk have been doing for years even before Citizens United?! Let's hope it's not too late, boys & girls. The SuperPACs supporting Mittens have been rolling in the dough for a long damn time. Newt Gingrich's sugar daddy has moved onto greener pastures. He even gave $5 million to help Eric Cantor keep his job. 196 sugar daddies have given 80% of the SuperPAC coin. Wow...government by the 196 sounds a little oogy to me. The DISCLOSE Act apparently failed - what a damn shock.
"Spitting into the Wind Part Deux" - MT Senator Jon Tester is all about the transparency tonight - except when it comes to going to the Dem convention to support his POTUS. I wonder how Max Baucus feels about DISCLOSE? ;D That Johnny Unitas haircut's gotta be easy to take care of. :)
[Show feed is failing again, so please update the show completion in the comments; I hope this trend decides to go the way of Crystal Pepsi.]
