Since Romney introduced the concept of a penalty for "free-riders" who refuse to purchase healthcare, he definitely deserves the honor of the tax being a memorial to his political courage, foresight and astuteness, hence the Romney Tax.
As Mitt would say, "What's sauce for the Goose is sauce for the Gander." Well, step right up to the Mitt Romney Gander Sauce Emporium
The Republicans and Mitt can't have it both ways - if it's a tax for Obama then it's a tax for the Republican standard bearer as well.
We should have a lot of fun in the coming months as we watch:
Mitt explain that it was just a tax on Massachusetters and that they didn't mind.
Mitt explain that all citizens of the United States are not as dumb as Bay Staters.
Mitt explain that he has had a conversion and now realizes that he was wrong wrong
Mitt tell us that the Mass health bill in his official portrait is being painted out and being replaced with a copy of the Norquist pledge
For some nice comments on this topic and how Mitt will have a hard time with the Etch-A-Sketch, see below:
On health care, it's Romney vs. Romney
Flashback: Romney Acknowledged His Massachusetts Plan Imposed a Tax-ABC News
GIBSON: ”Governor … you imposed tax penalties in Massachusetts?”
ROMNEY: ”Yes, we said, look, if people can afford to buy it, either buy the insurance or pay your own way; don’t be free-riders.”
The 'tax' attack on health care
If the Republicans persist on calling it a tax, every single time a Democrat should respond back :
"Ah, yes, the Romney tax. The one modeled after Romneycare. That tax? The one that less than 1% of people will pay and that will bring in .02% of tax revenues when it's maxed out? Hardly worth discussing. When you guys call it the biggest tax increase in history, you clearly don't have any kind of a grip on the reality of who it affects and the revenues raised. You are so uninformed that it's actually dangerous."
