Well, you gotta hand it to the Romney campaign, they really know how to get a three hour tour off to a rollicking start. Unsatisfied, apparently, with offering- via an unnamed aide-a back-handed racist slap at the President, delivered by way an offensive Palinesque brainfart that deleted a millennium of British history, the candidate himself felt the need to completely scuttle the Minnow by insulting the realm further in his interview with Brian Williams.
(More neath the swirling orange Minnow-remnants flotsam below)
According to the ever diplomatic Willard, these small island descendants of Cerdic may not be quite up to the complicated task of organizing an Olympics, unlike his awesomeness master of the universe sickeningly smug self.
Asked by Williams if -
“In the short time you have been in London, do they look ready to your experienced eye?”
The unabashedly social I.Q. deficient Rmoney replied -
"You know, it’s hard to know just how well it will turn out.
There were a few things that were disconcerting – the stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is something which is not encouraging.”
Because in the Games there are three parts that make Games successful: number one is the athletes, that’s overwhelmingly what the Games are about; number two are the volunteers and they will have great volunteers here, but number three are the people of the country:
Do they come together and celebrate the Olympic moment? That is something we only find out once the Games begin.”
As you might expect this went over like a a gigantic steaming bull flop on the terra firma of dear mother
England.
Alex Spillius, a Daily Telegraph columnist and former Washington correspondent wrote a blog headlined -
“If Mitt Romney doesn’t like us, we shouldn’t care”.
Within he opined -
“Mitt Romney is perhaps the only politician who could start a trip that was supposed to be a charm offensive by being utterly devoid of charm and mildly offensive.
His derisory comments questioning Britain’s preparedness for the Olympics in an interview with NBC were a strange way to build bridges with a country that he says should be restored as the umbilical ally of the United States, and a strange way to demonstrate the persuasive qualities needed as leader of the free world.”
Of course Spillius is just a common journalist clumsily returning insult to his country with like and well aimed insult... leave it to one of a higher station to stick a needle in Mitts eye and just wiggle it the slightest bit as befits the long honored Anglo art of understatement...
Mr Romney was meeting David Cameron on Thursday, and in a speech at the Olympic Park, the UK prime minister said visitors would “see beyond doubt that Britain can deliver”.
And with that The U.S.S. Minnow jauntily sails off to Poland and Israel, who remain blissfully unassaulted by Rmoney's foreign fun-filled charm offensive...
...as of yet.

6:13 PM PT: Back from the salt mines - thanks again to all that commented. Thoroughly enjoyed reading all the other diaries about Mitt's misadventures today, Christ, it really was a bit like watching half a season of "Mittigan's Island"....
