Neil Edwin Prescott was arrested yesterday by Maryland police, four days after he made threatening remarks to his boss regarding the massacre in Aurora Colorado. The threatening remarks were made by Prescott after learning that he was going to be terminated from his job. According to the police affidavit, Prescott told his boss "I am a joker, I'm going to load my guns and blow everybody up". He also said “that he would like to see the supervisor's brain splatter all over the sidewalk".
Police found Prescott heavily armed with an arsenal of at least 25 firearms at his home. Prescott's arsenal included semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, handguns, high powered scopes, and thousands of magazines.
ABC reports that official court documents state:
"It is clear that the comments made by Prescott reference a recent mass murder which occurred in Colorado within the last several days in which the alleged shooter called himself the Joker, died [sic] his hair red and shot up a movie theater containing men, women and children and showing the 'The Dark Night Rises'."
I thank God that the police were able to apprehend this man before disaster struck. But
how was this mentally unbalanced man able to acquire a small arsenal of 25 firearms without raising any red-flags? It seems that the only reason any suspicion was raised in the first place was because of the comments he made to his boss.
