At this point, The Guardian is pulling no punches when it comes to Mitt Romney.
In a [continuously updating!] article where every sentence drips with contempt, Richard Adams of the Guardian/UK is clearly enjoying himelf:
Mitt Romney and his staff lash out at US media coverage of his inept, error-strewn overseas trip – live coverage here
Adams intoduces a new word into the journalist's lexicon:
Assgate.
42m ago Politico reports on the event today that no one is calling "Assgate" – yet – with a blow by blow account of what happened as American journalists shouted terribly rude questions – such as "Are you still beating your wife?" and "Made any more gaffes today?" – at Mitt Romney while he walked around Poland...[.]:
Fact: Mitt Romney has not taken questions from the press since answering three of them outside 10 Downing St on Thursday. But then it's not like he's running for office or anything.
Adams dryly observes that Romney has now taken the fight directly to the media. Romney appeared on Fox News this morning in a huff, pounding the table about the supposedly unfair treatment he received from the media during his European tour:
Asked about his missteps in an interview with Fox News’ Carl Cameron before he left Poland on Tuesday, Romney accused reporters of trivializing the substance of his trip and trying to divert attention from President Obama’s stewardship of the economy.
“And I realize that there will be some in the Fourth Estate, or whichever estate, who are far more interested in finding something to write about that is unrelated to the economy, to geopolitics, to the threat of war, to the reality of conflict in Afghanistan today, to a nuclearization of Iran,” Romney said, according to a transcript of the interview that aired on Tuesday morning.
Fancy that. Strange when you don't give any press conferences to journalists, they might write about something else.
Adams might also have noted that Romney replied to more questions on Fox News than he did to the American press corps during the entire trip.
Mitt-as-victim Romney also bawled to Fox News the press is out to get him because they support President Obama:
"They'll instead try to find anything else to divert from the fact that these last four years have been tough years for our country."
But isn't this really Mitt Romney trying to find anything else to divert from the fact of his own incompetence? As President Obama's Deputy campaign press secretary Jen Psaki stated, much too charitably:
"He’s been fumbling the foreign policy football from country to country. And there’s a threshold question that he has to answer for the American people and that’s whether he’s prepared to be commander-in-chief…. This raises some questions about his preparedness,” she said.

Update: To my delight, I see that Adams is continuously updating his article. Noting that Romney's dancing horse Rafalca is scheduled to compete August 2 and 3, and possibly Aug 8 and 9th as well, Adams sees a potential conflict between the horse's prancing and Romney's pending VP announcement, which he expects would only occur if Ann Romney is at Mitt's side:
The horse could also compete August 8 and 9, depending on how well he performs this week, and Ann would likely stay for that as well. Romney probably won’t announce his VP pick without his wife by his side.
There's a first: presidential campaign delayed by dancing horse.
