Mitt Romney made a huge gaffe today:
"Join me in welcoming the next president of the United States, Paul Ryan!"
I'm not talking about this verbal slip of saying president instead of veep; I'm talking about his pick of Paul Ryan. He could not have picked better.... for us.
I am giving 14 reasons why, right now, I am SO STOKED about this and you should be too.
1. Mitt Romney now OWNS the Ryan budget. Remember when he refused to say whether he supported it? He knew it was toxic then, but he can’t refuse any of it now.
2. We will win Florida. The one group we were behind here was the senior vote… and Romney handed to us on a silver platter. Ryan doesn't want reform on Medicare, he wants to kill it. He said he got into politics because of Ayn Rand, and requires his staff to read her crap (and like Rand, Ryan is a hypocrite... both have taken from the government only to criticize others who do). Even the tea party old folks don’t want cuts to Medicare…. They want someone else to suffer. (Last Jan. I argued with a Villages columnist who simultaneously praised the tea party but said he needed more money from the Feds!) Furthermore, with Rubio I admitted that some Hispanics in the Cuban community would have moved to his camp. Others would as well just because Rubio is our Senator, but no group will vote for Romney here who already wasn't going to with this pick.
3. Ignorant conservatives burrow further in their own delusion. Erick, son of Eric on Redstate, said this about the voucher system of shifting the finiancial burden of healthcare on seniors: “The only problem is, the old people are receptive to Paul Ryan’s message” I LOVE these guys!
4. In addition to gutting Medicare, Ryan, like Romney, proposed an additional $250,000 tax cut for millionaires along with huge cuts in education, including Head Start and college aid. That will play well.
5. This so-called deficit buster rubber-stamped EVERYTHING W wanted, from Medicare Part D (which, unlike Obamacare, threw the ENTIRE program onto the deficit at alomst a trillion dollars) to all of W's economic policies that devastated us. We ain’t going back.
6. Arizona may now be in play because of the senior vote. It was in striking distance earlier this year, but pulled away. I see a comeback, baby.
7. Wisconsin still won’t be (Obama carried Ryan's district last time, and he hasn’t fallen behind once in that state in any poll. Nate Silver doesn't think WI will be in play either. Peeps who think the Walker victory shows a redstreak are kidding themselves… they didn’t think it warranted a recall, which had a higher standard. For a straight election? Obama’s got this one.)
8. Ryan supported the auto bailout, so that line of attack from the Romney ticket won’t work.
9. Ryan has never held a job in the private-sector, so that line of attack against Obama won’t work.
10. Ryan hates Romneycare, and Obamacare, but since he’s had government insurance all his life and is very healthy, again, THAT line of attack won’t work.
11. He is STRONGLY against abortion and contraception. Think Santorum without the "charm". He is not going to help at all with the appeal to women. (Although wingnuts are now tyring to say he’ll bring women because he’s “attractive”: 3 things: Number one, uhh, no. Number 2, how freaking stupid do you think women are? “He is taking us back to the 1950s, but my, those ears!” Number 3, this was exactly what wingdings told us about Sarah Palin peeling of Democratic men because of what a MILF she was. Remember that?)
12. For more than a decade, he has been in the House which is at an all time low in the polls. He has to answer for every vote he cast, all of them following the Bachmann trajectory. The only problem Obama has is there is SOOO MUCH to hit him with they won't know where to start.
13. Even Catholics don’t like him. The US Conference of Bishops criticized him for trying to “dismantle government programs and abandon the poor to their own devices” Jesuit affiliated Georgetown University sent him a scathing letter signed by a 90 faculty members and a dozen priests condemning him as well: "Your budget appears to reflect the values of your favorite philosopher, Ayn Rand, rather than the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her call to selfishness and her antagonism toward religion are antithetical to the Gospel values of compassion and love."
14. He has 0 foreign policy experience. I can’t wait until Joe beats him like he owns him in the debate.
Honestly, besides Palin, Trump, or Rick Scott, I don't know if Mittens could have picked worse. Just yesterday I wrote a diary saying there is no way Mitt could be this dumb. It had to Rubio. But the GOP isn't ready to have a minority at the top of the ticket (gotta pander to the haters), and Romney never believed in women executives (see Bain) so I knew that left a lot of people out. With those parameters, and now the new requirement that he be a teabagger, (sorry TPaw and Portly), Ryan was the last man standing.
So Merry Christmas, Obama.
PS. It still isn't a cake-walk folks. The billionaires are donating like mad to polish this s**t because these two beanheads are their ticket to you and I paying a ton in taxes to subsidize their lifestyle, so help Barack out and Donate, or volunteer. Let's bring these bastards down.
