Greta van Susteren, Byron York and Joe Newby all promote Niall Ferguson's journalistic fraud.
If you put aside all the nitpicking arguments about this and that, cost of Medicare and "ObamaCare," and knuckle down and ask those key questions, Has he delivered as a leader?... Niall Ferguson on Fox News
Ryan Chittum of the
Columbia Journalism Review summed it up nicely:
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a cover story so comprehensively demolished as Newsweek’s disengenuous anti-Obama piece by Harvard’s Niall Ferguson, who puts together a greatest-hits compilation of the right’s economic smears of the past three-plus years.
Ferguson's falsifications were derided in
Politico,
Business Insider, in the
New York Daily News, in
New York Magazine, in
National Journal, in
The New Yorker, and in The Atlantic,
here, and,
here.
Both Andrew Sullivan and Paul Krugman slammed his work.
But a professional liar can always find other fraudsters to promote his false claims. Ferguson found three, Greta van Susteren and Byron York on Fox News, and, in the right wing Examiner, Joe Newby.
Nowhere in the Fox News segment, nor in the Examiner, was there any suggestion that Ferguson, the Jayson Blair of Harvard University, had been accused of any kind of dishonesty. Instead, they accused the the biased liberal media of being unwilling to accept Ferguson's point of view.
We live in the age of The Big Lie, or more specifically, Roger Ailes' America.
1:12 PM PT: The least surprising news of the day: The American Enterprise Institute, the chief promoter of The Big Lie re: the origins of the financial crisis, is backing up Ferguson, arguing the fact checkers are wrong. The piece is written by a former journalist, James Pethokoukis, who is apparently willing to burn his bridges with the fact-based media.

3:17 PM PT: The second least surprising news of the day: John Carney, brother of the that other right wing hack at the Examiner, Peter Carney, comes to Ferguson's defense by using the same cherry-picking techniques.

Mon Aug 27, 2012 at 1:08 PM PT: John Sununu added his endorsement to Ferguson's mendacity in The Boston Globe. But then again, Romney's entire campaign has been a chain letter of lies.
