Once upon a time, there were these airline pilots who were pretty good at what they did. They did their job without complaints, and generally, their passengers always had a safe and comfortable ride to their destination.
One day, a big dark entity began talking tough about how some of these pilots were (gasp) bad pilots. So to rectify this situation, the head of the pilots was replaced by someone who had never flown an aircraft before.
Problem solved. So everyone lived happily ever after.
The End.

Absurd? No profession would ever allow this scenario to happen, right? Wouldn't it make sense to have an actual experienced pilot to be the head of all the pilots?
I mean, what profession would ever allow the head of that profession to have no experience in said profession?
It is absurd, right?
More below the fold...
In other news, the New Mexico Secretary-Designate of Education is one Hanna Skandera. who has exactly zero (0) hours in the classroom (which is why she has yet to be confirmed by the NM state legislators). Of course, our illustrious Governor steadfastly stands by her, uh, woman.
Wait. What? The NM Secretary-Designate of Education has no experience in the classroom? But, but... What about professionals not allowing anything like that to happen to their profession? That's. Just. Great. Now my head hurts.
I am required by the state of NM to have the equivalent of a degree in the field that I teach in order to be considered "Highly Qualified" (which, BTW, I "highly agree" with). I have a degree in math, so I get the high honor of teaching math. Why does my boss get special treatment? Should I consider my boss to be "Highly Qualified"? Would Secretary-Designate Skandera like it if I was called a Teacher-Designate because I had neither the experience nor the training to be in the classroom? This isn't rocket science, you know.
And Governor Martinez thought that an unqualified, pro-corporate person like this would be well received by our state, bringing Conservatives and Progressives together in a Cumbaya moment? Secretary-Designate Skandera is a slap in the face to every teacher in NM, regardless of one's political affiliation. Any teacher that is not offended every second Secretary-Designate Skandera remains in office is not paying attention. How our Governor got away with this disgusting appointment is beyond me.
But she won't be getting away with it for much longer. I believe that Hector Balderas will turn things around for our state once he defeats Susana Martinez in the soon-to-be-historic landslide election for Governor in 2014. On his first day in office, Mr. Balderas should FIRE Secretary-Designate Skandera, and put a REAL TEACHER in that position. Can you imagine how teacher's hearts would swell with soaring pride knowing that they finally having a true advocate in Santa Fe?
Draft Balderas For Governor 2014!
The floor is yours...
