Here's the latest letter from the Patients over Politics RV gang:
We’re on day 6 of the Patients Over Politics bus tour with doctors across the country, and we had to share some amazing experiences we’ve had on the road.
Thursday, we descended on Lykes Gaslight Park a few blocks from the RNC, and over 20 media outlets came to interview us - from blogs, newspapers, radio, and TV! We spoke from the heart and told the truth about the myths and facts on health reform.
Tuesday, at our University of South Florida event, a 22-year-old student, Craig, approached us and said he had no health insurance. Unfortunately, he got sick last year and has a hefty hospital bill – and he’s worried that he could get sick again. His eyes lit up when we told him about the coverage provisions for young adults under the age of 26 – he had never heard of this before.
The other day, as we were getting dinner, Kelly, a middle aged restaurant owner in Clearwater ran up to us in the parking lot and asked about our RV. She told us that despite working 7 days a week, she can’t afford health insurance. Samantha, a mother and cancer survivor who we met in Eatonville, told us how relieved she felt when she discovered she could now get coverage despite her pre-existing condition.
