There's a New York style deli/bagel shop near our home where my husband and I often enjoy breakfast when we are up and out early. We're there frequently enough that we've gotten to know the folks who own and staff it. They're all "regular" people like us, pleasant and always happy to chit chat while taking our order and ringing it up. We stopped in yesterday morning and as usual my hubby struck up a conversation with the lady behind the counter.
Dana asked his name and when he told her she said she should have remembered it since we're there so often. Persiflage reassured her by saying not to worry because she deals with so many people it would be impossible to keep track of them all. She went on saying we used to be there more often and he told her that was because his Dad lived with us for six years before he died and sometimes we were just too tired from caring for him to cook so one of us would run out to pick up breakfast and take it home.
That response started the really wonderful part of the conversation. Dana began by saying how good it was of us to care for Dad in our home and that not many people do that. She then asked if Persiflage remembered Louise. He did and mentioned he hadn't seen her for awhile. It turns out Louise is staying home caring for her father who has dementia and that while she needs to work she feels she owes it to her dad to look after him. There is no money available for outside help.
My husband told Dana he sure hoped she would vote for Obama in November so that families like Louise's would be better able to get help. Dana then got passionate. She said, and I quote: "You'd better believe I'm voting for Obama. My husband and I have four kids. I work the day shift and he works nights so we don't have to pay for child care. We don't make much money but we're getting by and our kids are doing well. We pay our taxes and don't get one bit of help from the government and don't want any. So oh yeah, I'm voting for Obama!"
So Mr. Rmoney, stick that in your pipe and smoke it. If our "bagel lady" Dana is one of the 47%, an Obama voter, how come she isn't home and on welfare, grocery shopping with food stamps and using the ER for her family's medical care? You know what your problem is Mittens? You're a smug, self- satisfied, cold, calculating, never wanted for a thing in your life, rat bastard who doesn't give a damn about Dana, Louise or anyone else in this world who isn't of your ilk. I wouldn't pour water on you if you were on fire.
GOTV, talk to people and let's get this thing done! Oh, and you go Dana!
