Tim Kaine, the Democratic candidate in the VA-Sen race, just put his foot in his mouth, took it out, and then put the foot back in his mouth. He said during the debate with George "Macaca" Allen that he was open to taxing poor Americans that make up the 47%, giving into the right-wing lies about the 47% of Americans. Here's the story from TalkingPointsMemo:
Asked about Mitt Romney's complaints about how 47 percent of Americans pay no income tax, at a Virginia Senate Debate Thursday, former Gov. Tim Kaine (D) unexpectedly said in a Senate debate that he was "open" to a proposal to require a minimum income tax from those who do not currently pay any.
Democrats have all but universally opposed efforts to raises taxes on that group, since it would require reversing tax credits and benefits that affect the working poor, senior citizens, households with children, and soldiers deployed in combat zones, among other groups.
Our winning the Senate back just got harder thanks to Tim Kaine's foot-in-the-mouth remark. What a foolish remark for him to make!
