Sister woman reports great enthusiasm for a Democrat to take the US Senate seat vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison. Paul Sadleris his name and he comes to the voters after many years of service in the State legislature. While Texans haven't elected a Democrat to the US Senate since 1988, they clearly voted for qualified when they elected Senator Hutchison. At least, from what I could tell from her staff, she was good at hiring competent personnel. When sister Jere and I visited Capitol Hill to lobby for peace, no office staff was more welcoming than Hutchison's.
TheFOX News coverage of Sadler's selection in a primary run-off, is a really good example of how the news can be skewed.
DALLAS – Former Texas state lawmaker Paul Sadler has beaten political unknown Grady Yarbrough in a Democratic runoff to capture a U.S. Senate nomination.
Sadler is an attorney who served in the Texas House from 1991 to 2003.
Twelve years of service in the legislature is subordinated to the fact that Sadler was selected over a person with no record but a recognizable name. That Sadler supports the Democratic agenda is an after-thought in the report.
Of course, a run-off election is both a positive and a negative. The person selected has less time to prepare for the general election, even as the run-off itself generates some free media coverage. The media, of course, don't consider that an advantage. They'd rather have well-funded champions whose money-bags are endlessly replenished.
Still, from a grass-roots perspective, a horde of energetic supporters is better than a hoard of cash. So, it's good to see that the Sadler people are beating the bushes for people who can fork over twenty bucks as a token of their commitment and their vote, come November.
