I'll make this short and hopefully sweet.
Romney is behaving like so many other CEO's out there.
They are so used to saying one thing to one group of people and a different thing to others.
They will change their mind as quick as light if it is foreseen that the customers value something else. This is why boycotts work. They will also take the position that this has always been their position, and nobody dare contradict the new value set.
This may be all well and good when trying to meet customer expectations, but it is entirely wrong when dealing with the press and the electorate, people will point out your contradictions. Every gaff will be amplified, rather than stifled by corporate protocol.
Romney's campaign is falling apart because of this hubris, and so would his eventual Presidency. It is a perfect example why business leaders [if they stop and think for a second] should rarely enter politics. How many blowups have we seen before by corporate executives, Carly Fiorina springs readily to mind.
I am sorry to inform you Mr Romney but in today's Republican party; not only cannot you please all the party, but they will hate you for it if you try. Sadly everything you say will be reported.
Take this as [my least favorite saying in all of business] " a learning experience."
