The Elephant in the room is getting harder to ignore. Maybe one of the Presidential Candidates will have the temerity to mention the subject on the Campaign Trail.
Climate Change Kills 400,000 a Year, New Report Reveals
Sep 27, 2012 4:45 AM EDT
The Earth’s changing climate is costing the global economy $1.2 trillion a year and killing 1,000 children a day, according to a new study—and the U.N. warns the summer’s record heat and drought could trigger a catastrophe.
Nearly 1,000 children a day are now dying because of climate change, according to a path-breaking study published Wednesday (PDF), and the annual death toll stands at 400,000 people worldwide.
Climate change also is costing the world economy $1.2 trillion a year, the equivalent of 1.6 percent of economic output, reports the Climate Vulnerability Monitor, a study commissioned by 20 of the world’s governments whose nations are most threatened by climate change and released on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly meeting in New York.
Why Climate Change remains invisible in this years' Presidential Campaign confounds me. Its becoming pretty obvious that Climate Change is creating significant problems that any US President will have to grapple with, whether they profess skepticism of the scientific consensus of not. Addressing Climate Change needs to be a viable part of Obama's mandate to help President Obama act should he win a second term as it now appears he probably will.
This is no time for an abundance of caution Mr President, we need your leadership on this urgent issue.
