Clearly Mitt Romney painted himself in a corner by trying to appeal to the anti-immigrant segment of the Republican Party. (Don't exhaust yourself searching for another segment.) Now Romney would like to appeal to the Latino electorate, (at least those Hispanic voters that can't be disenfranchised with voter id laws). His stances against the Dream Act and for self-deportation will make this difficult. And these positions can hurt Romney with some non-minority voters as well; especially if we can frame the issues with skill.
After Mitt perfects self-deportation of illegals,
He’s looking at self-imprisonment of criminals,
And self-execution of murderers.
Please look below the fold for another example, and some discussion.
Romney has a dream: Young people raised in this country, get deported to a country they’ve never known.
Obama has a dream: Young people who know America as their home, have the opportunity to stay and contribute.

For the next month or so, the group Political Language and Messaging, will be collection point for concise messaging ideas like these. Please participate! Provide ideas. The ideas that will be the most useful will be the ones you have boiled down to their essence --- sound bites and bumper stickers are good models. Something so concise and memorable it might stick with a harried parent on her/his way to work. We are trying to assemble ideas that can be used in the rest of this year's campaign. Additionally the Frameshop group will provide an opportunity to rate messaging ideas in the manner of a focus group. We want to encourage everyone to contribute. Please join these two groups. Or if you prefer, post comments to the diaries that others post to these groups, and include your ideas in your comments. YOU are needed!
Together we can create an easily accessed collection of fresh original memorable ideas for the Democratic Party and for independent progressive groups that support Democratic candidates. If we build it they (consultants with ad budgets) may come!
