Midnight tonight is the deadline for the third-quarter fund raising efforts, so if you have put it off before, now would be a good time to make that donation.
And as always, the Obama re-election team has given us one more easy way to Quick Donate:
By now you have probably already made plans for the debate, whether joining the live blog here, or watching at home with family and friends or sharing the night with other volunteers. As we all know, because we have heard/read it innumerable times, a big part of Wednesday night's debate is expectations. The DNC has released a new ad today praising Mitt Romney's munificent debating skills as extolled by the Village media:
Independent analysts and Mitt Romney's own supporters agree on two things:
1. Romney's an accomplished debater who excelled at debates in the GOP primary.
2. This week's debate is a make or break moment for Governor Romney.
Either way, Romney is facing great expectations.
"Mitt Romney: Great Expectations"
At the same time, President Obama's team is working to reduce his expectations as he lands in Las Vegas today for some final debate prep. According to Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki, the President's goals for the debate are more modest than Romney's reported intent to use zingers to "reset the campaign," and his prep is focused on what he needs to do:
Psaki noted that the president hasn’t gotten in as much preparation time as he would have liked, thanks to the events in the Middle East and his rigorous campaign schedule. She also acknowledged the president’s struggle for brevity: A former law professor, the president often sounds like one. As a sitting president who hasn’t had to share the stage for four years, he’s had to work on watching the clock.
“It is something he is well aware of, and his team has pointed out to him that he needs to work on tightening and shortening his answers,” Psaki told reporters on the flight from Washington to Las Vegas. “He understands what the format of the debate is and, as I mentioned before, the team prepping him has watched many debates that Mitt Romney has done where he’s been very disciplined with sharp, tight answers.”
It made me happy to read this part of the
LA Times article, both for its emphasis on the Las Vegas area economy and the attempt to reach out to and fire up Latino voters:
Obama put his debate camp in important territory for this campaign, the economically battered and politically shifting suburbs outside of Las Vegas. The area took a sharp turn toward Democrats in 2008 but moved back to Republicans in 2010. It is a prime target for the Obama campaign’s attempt to persuade middle-class voters that the president’s economic policies are worth giving him another four years.
Obama also plans to work in some base-oriented politicking into his trip. The campaign rally Sunday night at Las Vegas high school was to use a megastar Mexican rock band, Mana, as a draw for Latino voters.
And finally, just because it is so cool:
106 Years Old and Voting for President Obama: "Red, White and Blue, Going Forward!"
The last time Margaret Harris voted was in 1928—and the next time will be on November 6, 2012 for President Barack Obama. Margaret always encouraged her family to be educated citizens—a family that includes about 88 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She's seen a lot of change living through World War II and the civil rights era. Now she's continuing to move forward by making sure President Obama is re-elected while encouraging her family and friends to do the same.
As Margaret shares:
"Being honest is the most important thing—treating everybody right. Barack Obama is honest and I love him for it. I appreciate him. I know he's looking out for me."
