Yeah, they're still lying.
Unburdened by any commitment at all to something as quaint as facts, the Romney/Ryan team is going all in on the Medicare lie, running
robocalls describing how President Obama is out to destroy the program. Here's a transcript of the audio obtained by Think Progress.
Some think Obamacare is the same as free health care, but nothing is free. Obama is raiding $716 billion dollars from Medicare, changing the program forever — taxing wheel chairs and pace makers, raising taxes on families making less than $120,000 dollars. Free health care comes at a very high price. The Romney-Ryan plan will restore Medicare funding, and protect and strengthen the program for the next generation.
How do you even begin to unpack the lies? No, $716 billion has not been raided. It's taking the waste out of the private boondoggle that is Medicare Advantage. That's old hat. We've already heard and debunked that one so many times anyone who's actually paid attention could do it in their sleep.
But here's a totally new flight into flagrant fibbing from the pair. People with wheel chairs and pace makers are not going to have to pay taxes on them, though some manufacturers and importers of those medical devices will have to pay an excise tax on their profits. No patients are harmed in the making of this revenue stream. So the taxes on families making less than $120,000 is just completely pulled out of their asses.
What will happen with Romney/Ryan is that people making less than $120,000 annually will have to pay a lot more in taxes to make up for the big tax cuts they'll give to the very wealthy. What will also happen is that they'll repeal Obamacare, so some seniors would once again have to pay more out of pocket for prescriptions. Once they get vouchercare in place, seniors will lose more and more medical help from Medicare, and pay more and more out of their own pockets, $60,000 out of pocket for someone retiring in 2023.
Of course, it won't be Medicare by then, if Romney and Ryan have their way. It'll just be a memory, and a major regret for people who actually voted Republican in 2012.
