Lanhee Chen, Policy Director of the Romney campaign sat down on Fox.
I have transcribed as best I can:
Question: Romney is looking to overhaul the tax code, drop marginal rates significantly and yet not say which loopholes/deductions and credits would be utilized. How can he not tell the American people those facts?
Chen: the race is about two different philosophies. The President says he will raise taxes, in fact has a platform of higher taxes. Romney/Ryan would broadly lower rates and tax reform to get 'rid of some of the underbrush.
Question: Why won't he explain which deductions and by how much?
Chen: A number of bipartisan commissions over the years have told us exactly how we get there. The key is Presidential leadership and that's what has been lacking.
Question: Forgive me Mr. Chen but you are just not answering my questions. Which loopholes, deductions, credits and exemptions any President alters would affect all Americans. Before they cast their ballot don't they deserve to know which ones are going, which ones are not and by how much?
Chen: Governor Romney has been very clear that he would look to cut deductions and exemptions for high income tax payers and secondly a lot of different ........ is about a process where Romney sits down with Congress to make decisions about what is best for the American people.
Question: So that's it. He isn't going to tell them before the November election. He's just gonna wait?
