It is clear beyond all doubt that Joe Paterno was complicit in hiding Jerry Sandusky's history of child molestation. He even admitted that he should have gone to the police about the now-infamous 2001 shower incident. And yet, unless I'm very wrong, there is presently no action pending to remove him from the College Football Hall of Fame.
Here is a guy who, based on the Freeh report, talked his nominal bosses into not reporting the 2001 shower incident to police. Three years earlier, he did nothing to limit Sandusky's access to the Penn State football facilities while there was an investigation underway for another shower incident. Moreover, Paterno's assistants knew Sandusky was taking little boys into the shower with him for some time before 1998. He created (or at least allowed to be created) a culture in the program in which anyone who reported something that could reflect badly on the program would be thrown under the bus. And yet, unless I've missed something, the National Football Foundation--which operates the Hall of Fame--has taken no action to remove him. Even if you allow for the fact that this is the same Hall that dragged its feet inducting Paul Robeson, this is beyond disgraceful.
