Charlie has decided to respond, courtesy of - y'know - TMZ and stuff.
“Christopher Dorner? Charlie Sheen,” the actor says. “You mentioned me in your manifesto, so thank you for your kind words.
“I am urging you to call me. Let’s figure out together how to end this thing. Call me, I look forward to talking to you.”
Now frankly I don't think Charlie is in any real position to help in this situation, but I do think he should be appreciated for trying. At least someone is, because if you actually bother to read Dorner's full manifesto it's very clear that the entire piece is one long
cry for help.
Unfortunately real help is probably not what's coming to him.
Several other diarist have attempted to look at this situation in varying ways and some have been accused of supporting or endorsing a murderer. I think that's unfortunate because the fact that Dorner has gone to this "Last Resort" (his words) using "Assymetrical Warfare" and Murder doesn't mean that all of his reasons, rationales, justifications or excuses are illegitimate. In some cases, maybe several, he may have a point.
The LA Times Article which has been presented as the primary profile on Dorner goes on and on and on about his various deficiencies as reported by his LAPD training Officer and others on the force. He begged, even cried in his squad car for additional training after his original Academy training was interrupted by a year-long deployment with the Navy. He didn't show good "common sense" and so on.
LAPD sources, who are not supposed to be commenting on the case to the press, claim that because he once wore neon colored running shoes instead of black or white shoes during Academy training he gets called a "Non-Team Player", someone who "Thinks the rules don't apply to him".
Ok, that's fine - but just what are those rules really? Turn a blind eye to abuse when you see it?
Here's the thing, that very same training Officer (now Sargent) Teresa Evens, is the exact same person that Dorner filed a abuse complaint about claiming that she kicked mentally ill suspect in the face during and arrest. Now although the suspect didn't mention it at the time - even though the LA Times admits that he had injuries to his face after his arrest. Despite the physical evidence the LAPD decided they didn't believe Dorner and he was fired for filing a "false report". As almost an aside at the end of their article the Times admits this:
At Dorner's discipline hearing, the father of the man the partners arrested testified that his son had told him he had been kicked by an officer. Nonetheless the discipline board, found that Dorner had lied about the incident and fired him.
Oh, his father testified to this, did he? Not only that Dorner documents that the victim testified via video tape to the same thing.
During this BOR hearing a video was played for the BOR panel where Christopher Gettler stated that he was indeed kicked by Officer Evans (video sent to multiple news agencies). In addition to Christopher Gettler stating he was kicked, his father Richard Gettler, also stated that his son had stated he was kicked by an officer when he was arrested after being released from custody. This was all presented for the department at the BOR hearing. They still found me guilty and terminated me.
What they didn’t mention was that the BOR panel made up of Capt. Phil Tingirides, Capt. Justin Eisenberg, and City Attorney Martella had a significant problem from the time the board was assembled. Capt. Phil Tingirides was a personal friend of Teresa Evans from when he was her supervisor at Harbor station. That is a clear conflict of interest and I made my argument for his removal early and was denied. The advocate for the LAPD BOR was Sgt. Anderson. Anderson also had a conflict of interest as she was Evans friend and former partner from Harbor division where they both worked patrol together. I made my argument for her removal when I discovered her relation to Evans and it was denied.
So the victim and the victim's father both corroborate Dorner, or so he claims. LA Times
half confirms this, but for some reason they don't confirm the tape of Gettler confirming that he was indeed kicked. And no one mentions that many of panel members had conflicts of interests and/or friendships with Evans.
It's no excuse for Murder, but Dorner may have been improperly terminated. A whistle-blower punished for telling the truth.
So I wondered: Have any News Agencies attempted to talk to Gettler since Dorner went on his spree? Have they attempted to talk to Evans?

Gettler said his son, whom he described as mentally ill and schizophrenic, indeed came home in 2007 with cuts on his face, saying a cop had hit him.
The officer whom Dorner reported as using unnecessary force was later promoted to sergeant. She was not available to discuss the case, and police told media not to approach her home.

So there's enough here to argue that Dorner's primary complaint is probably true, or at the very least isn't a "Lie" or a figment of his imagination. He didn't file a "false report" he was probably right, but rather than admit that fact the department decided to fire him and promote Evans - who according to Dorner - has a whole host of other abuse and anger issues on her plate.
What they failed to mention in the BOR was Teresa Evans own use of force history during her career on the LAPD. She has admitted that she has a lengthy use of force record and has been flagged several times by risk management. She has a very well known nickname, Chupacabra, which she was very proud to flaunt around the division. She found it very funny and entertaining to draw blood from suspects and arrestees. At one point she even intentionally ripped the flesh off the arm of a woman we had arrested for battery (sprayed her neighbor with a garden water hose). Knowing the woman had thin elastic skin, she performed and Indian burn to the woman’s arm after cuffing her. That woman was in her mid-70’s, a mother and grandmother, and was angry at her tenants who failed to pay rent on time. Something I can completely understand and I am sure many have wanted to do toward tenants who do not pay their rent. Teresa Evans was also demoted from a senior lead officer rank/position for performance issues. During my two months of working patrol with Teresa Evans, I found her as a woman who was very angry that she had been pulled from patrol for a short time because of a domestic violence report made by Long Beach Police Department because of an incident involving her active LAPD officer boyfriend, Dominick Fuentes, and herself. Dominick Fuentes is the same officer investigated for witness tampering. She also was visibly angry on a daily basis that she was going to have to file for bankruptcy because her ex-husband, a former LAPD officer and not Dominick Fuentes, who had left the department, state, and was nowhere to be found had left her with a tax bill and debt that she was unable to pay because of a lack of financial means.
Evans gets promoted, Dorner gets Fired.
But then again, he may have deserved getting fired for various reasons. He admits that he himself assaulted another pair of Officers who repeated used the N-Word in his presence. He may have been "wronged", but he clearly doesn't handle it well.
While traveling back to the station in a 12 passenger van I heard Magana refer to another individual as a nigger. I wasn’t sure if I heard correctly as there were many conversations in the van that was compiled of at least 8 officers and he was sitting in the very rear and me in the very front. Even with the multiple conversations and ambient noise I heard Officer Magana call an indivdual a nigger again. Now that I had confirmed it, I told Magana not to use that word again. I explained that it was a well known offensive word that should not be used by anyone. He replied, "I’ll say it when I want". Officer Burdios, a friend of his, also stated that he would say nigger when he wanted. At that point I jumped over my front passenger seat and two other officers where I placed my hands around Burdios’ neck and squeezed. I stated to Burdios, “Don’t fucking say that”.

That day, the LAPD stated that it is acceptable for fellow officers to call black officers niggers to their face and you will receive a slap on the wrist. Even sadder is that during that 22 day suspension Buridios and Magana received is that the LAPPL (Los Angeles Police Protective League) paid the officers their salaries while they were suspended. When I took a two day suspension for an accidental discharge, I took my suspension and never applied for a league salary. Its called integrity.
What becomes clear is that Dorner again, has a legitimate complaint, however - he also has a major problem with knowing how to respond proportionally. According to his own words, this is a tendency - particularly with verbal racism - that goes back to his early years in school. He nearly brags about being punished for responding violently to being called the N-word, and he himself makes the connection directly with Evans.
I was the only black kid in each of my elementary school classes from first grade to seventh grade in junior high and any instances where I was disciplined for fighting was in response to fellow students provoking common childhood schoolyard fights, or calling me a nigger or other derogatory racial names. I grew up in neighborhoods where blacks make up less than 1%. My first recollection of racism was in the first grade at Norwalk Christian elementary school in Norwalk, CA. A fellow student, Jim Armstrong if I can recall, called me a nigger on the playground. My response was swift and non-lethal. I struck him fast and hard with a punch an kick. He cried and reported it to a teacher. The teacher reported it to the principal. The principal swatted Jim for using a derogatory word toward me. He then for some unknown reason swatted me for striking Jim in response to him calling me a nigger. He stated as good Christians we are to turn the other cheek as Jesus did.

That day I made a life decision that i will not tolerate racial derogatory terms spoken to me. Unfortunately I was swatted multiple times for the same exact reason up until junior high. Terminating me for telling the truth of a caucasian officer kicking a mentally ill man is disgusting. Don't ever call me a fucking bully.
Yeah, proportionality. He has a habit of taking things too far and too personally, even Gettler's father says this.
Gettler recounted his and his son's involvement in hearings over the firing of Dorner, saying that at a 2008 hearing Dorner seemed "idealistic." But Gettler believed the officer had made too much of the incident.
"He stood up for what he thought was right … You could tell by the look on his face he was just a young, idealistic kid, who was proud of the badge," Gettler said. "I commended him first. Then I got close to him and said, 'What is wrong with you? Weren't you thinking? ... It's the three musketeers, all for one and one for all!'"
When I first heard of this situation I had many thoughts. I wondered, it's clear his anger issues when it comes to abuse and racism may have been acerbated by his military service. Like many of these incidents, he is essentially committing extended "Suicide by Cop", and could this have been accelerated by some form of PTSD?
Dorner himself actually considers that he may have brain damage and asks that his brain be examined after his death, but not because of PTSD, it's because of depression and the fact he used to play football.
If possible, I want my brain preserved for science/research to study the effects of severe depression on an individual's brain. Since 6/26/08 when I was relieved of duty and 1/2/09 when I was terminated I have been afflicted with severe depression. I've had two CT scans during my lifetime that are in my medical record at Kaiser Permanente. Both are from concussions resulting from playing football. The first one was in high school, 10/96. The second was in college and occurred in 10/99. Both were conducted at Kaiser Permanente hospitals in LA/Orange county. These two CT scans should give a good baseline for my brain activity before severe depression began in late 2008.
This case crosses so many lines. It crosses into Police Abuses, the systemic tendency by large organizations to protect themselves while letting a risk to the public remain, Racism - perceived accurately or not - depression, traumatic brain damage and even Gun Control which again - Dorner strongly supports.
If you had a well regulated AWB, this would not happen. The time is now to reinstitute a ban that will save lives. Why does any sportsman need a 30 round magazine for hunting? Why does anyone need a suppressor? Why does anyone need a AR15 rifle? This is the same small arms weapons system utilized in eradicating Al Qaeda, Taliban, and every enemy combatant since the Vietnam war. Don’t give me that crap that its not a select fire or full auto rifle like the DoD uses. That’s bullshit because troops who carry the M-4/M-16 weapon system for combat ops outside the wire rarely utilize the select fire function when in contact with enemy combatants. The use of select fire probably isn’t even 1% in combat. So in essence, the AR-15 semiautomatic rifle is the same as the M-4/M-16. These do not need to be purchased as easily as walking to your local Walmart or striking the enter key on your keyboard to "add to cart". All the firearms utilized in my activities are registered to me and were legally purchased at gun stores and private party transfers. All concealable weapons (pistols) were also legally register in my name at police stations or FFL's. Unfortunately, are you aware that I obtained class III weapons (suppressors) without a background check thru NICS or DROS completely LEGALLY several times? I was able to use a trust account that I created on quicken will maker and a $10 notary charge at a mailbox etc. to obtain them legally.
He has fully automatic guns. He's got a .50 cal and he's a marksman. And he's got a chip on his shoulder the size of Mount Rushmore. I don't think this will end well for anyone.
So ironic that a man who is the walking, talking, shooting embodiment of the Lapierre fever dream of using your 2nd Amendment Rights to "Fight Back Against a Corrupt Government", pretty much hates his ass.
Wayne LaPierre, President of the NRA, you're a vile and inhumane piece of shit. You never even showed 30 seconds of empathy for the children, teachers, and families of Sandy Hook. You deflected any type of blame/responsibility and directed it toward the influence of movies and the media. You are a failure of a human being. May all of your immediate and distant family die horrific deaths in front of you.
I'm sure we'll be speculating about what could drive someone who has sworn to protect so far over the edge for years to come even as we see case after case. Columbine. Aurora. Newtown. How could he be so heartless as to not only go after fellow officers, but their families? Well, he actually explains this - and this is the most chilling.
Citizens/non-combatants, do not render medical aid to downed officers/enemy combatants. They would not do the same for you. They will let you bleed out just so they can brag to other officers that they had a 187 caper the other day and can’t wait to accrue the overtime in future court subpoenas. As they always say, "that's the paramedics job...not mine". Let the balance of loss of life take place. Sometimes a reset needs to occur.

Don't honor these fallen officers/dirtbags. When your family members die, they just see you as extra overtime at a crime scene and at a perimeter. Why would you value their lives when they clearly don't value yours or your family members lives? I've heard many officers who state they see dead victims as ATV's, Waverunners, RV’s and new clothes for their kids. Why would you shed a tear for them when they in return crack a smile for your loss because of the impending extra money they will receive in their next paycheck for sitting at your loved ones crime scene of 6 hours because of the overtime they will accrue. They take photos of your loved ones recently deceased bodies with their cellphones and play a game of who has the most graphic dead body of the night with officers from other divisions. This isn't just the 20 something year old officers, this is the 50 year old officers with significant time on the job as well who participate.
Think of how angry people were when they heard and saw U.S. Soldiers
urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban? There's a lot of people who might want to exact bloody revenge if they knew LAPD were treating their wounded and dead loved-ones this way. Still ghoulish and callous behavior, even dark gallows humor is part of the coping mechanism for regularly confronting that which one should probably one see once in a lifetime. It can be understood, it just shouldn't be tolerated.
None of this excuses anything Dorner has done. None of this justifies it. None of this excuses it - but it does explain it. This is not insanity or dementia. It's overwrought and hyper-dramatic, but it's rational. This is understandable. It's knowable. It's something that can be improved, it can be fixed.
And if there's one way to get the violence and killing to stop, it's to begin the processes of fixing it - which is something that should happen anyway and shouldn't have required multiple murders before we and the media take seriously. Many of us thought the bad old Rodney King/Rampart Scandal days were over once the DOJ's Civil Consent Decree over the LAPD had been lifted. Maybe they aren't.
I want all journalist to utilize every source you have that specializes in collections for your reports. With the discovery and evidence available you will see the truth. Unfortunately, I will not be alive to see my name cleared. That's what this is about, my name. A man is nothing without his name.
The attacks will stop when the department states the truth about my innocence, PUBLICLY!!! I will not accept any type of currency/goods in exchange for the attacks to stop, nor do i want it. I want my name back, period.
No, Charlie can't end this. And the likelihood of the LAPD admitting they were wrong is about as likely as another flying pig joke in the next Geico commercial.
There's no way this ends well. And the saddest part is that Dorner's out of proportion over-reaction is frankly far less likely to achieve what he seeks. Justice for himself and a serious substantive change in the LAPD's own internal culture.
Then again, as I type this, the News is reporting that the LAPD is re-opening the case that led to Dorner's firing. Hmph, maybe someone has been paying attention, or maybe their just covering their ass.

In an exclusive CBS interview, LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck has announced that he is reopening the case that led to Dorner’s firing. Beck made it clear that he is not doing this to appease Dorner, rather to reaffirm the public’s faith in the LAPD. According to Beck, 50 members of the LAPD and their families are under protection in response to Dorner’s threats.
Newsflash Charlie, we still don't trust you.

10:36 AM PT: The CBS Interview with Chief Beck is very extensive and he is challenged on nearly all the issues that I bring up in this post including the Gettler Video. My general feeling is that Beck, who was Deputy Chief in command of both Dorner & Evans at the time of their dispute, is far more interested in PR than truth.
