Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. I thought today we could talk a little bit about chi and other life forces.
In Chinese philosophy chi means "air" or "breath," but as a concept it refers to the energy flow of life force that is said to pervade all things. It is a vital part of Taoism. It is also a part of Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese exercises help to direct the flow of chi through the body. Feng Shui shows how to best utilize rooms to maintain the free flow of chi energy.
The Chinese are not the only people to recognize the life force that is part of the world. The Native American people try to bring a harmony between people and the life force or spirits that inhabit living things. The Celts believed in the sacred force and the tree of life. The Australian Aborigines believe in the dreamtime and the spirit of the land.
Belief in the spirit or energy is universal and plays an important part in the lives of many people. Even today modern man uses the phrase “out of spirits” when things aren’t right. In this crazy hustle and bustle world one of the most valuable things we can have in our lives is harmony.
I did this picture called “Peace” in honor of my late Dad. He was my oasis of harmony.
