The media’s having a grand ol’ time with the current sex scandal du jour. Of course they are, sex sells. Yet, the debate always seems to come down to character. Whether or not you, me and/or the voters of NYC want and deserve a Mayor that can’t seem to stop taking dick pics and sending them to women nearly half his age.
His behavior is clearly reprehensible. It absolutely disgusts me. If I still lived in the city, there’s no way I’d vote for that guy.
There’s also another very important reason I wouldn’t vote for him. He’d be the Mayor of New York City. The place that the too big to fail banks of Wall Street call home.
And Anthony Weiner is compromised.
On June 13th Bloomberg News reported on an NSA led program that allowed for sharing of information with several private partners. Here’s a tidbit:
Makers of hardware and software, banks, Internet security providers, satellite telecommunications companies and many other companies also participate in the government programs. In some cases, the information gathered may be used not just to defend the nation but to help infiltrate computers of its adversaries.
The Mayor of New York is a powerful person. The Mayor’s reach and political influence can extend well beyond the office’s officially enumerated powers. Politicians, such as Giuliani, often emerge from the prosecutor's office. The citizen’s seem to like a strong and aggressive leader with a track record for going after the powerful.
Which is why Anthony Weiner can never be Mayor. He’s already admitted there may be 2 - 3 other women out there with dick pics on their phones. Who knows what he’s not admitting to doing. Actually, we know who knows - the NSA. They can, apparently, look up that information with just a few keystrokes. Perhaps their private sector partners can too. Maybe they need to get some sort of clearance before doing so, but given Snowden’s background, I don’t have a whole lot of confidence that this is the case.
Anthony Weiner cannot be Mayor because the people we need him to fight against can destroy him whenever they please.
This time we know about it. Next time, we may not.
