Those suffering from the tedium of this long post-election lull in presidential polling finally received welcome relief today, with the publication of the first major poll for the 2016 President election by PPP. Ariel Levy, of Huffington Post, reports Hillary Clinton besting both Democratic and Republican challengers as reported in 2016 Presidential Election Poll: Hillary Clinton Would Lead Democratic Primary.
Hillary Clinton would be "the ideal Democratic presidential candidate in 2016,” sweeping her party's primary and besting potential Republican candidates other than Chris Christie, according to the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.
The secretary of state has a 54 percent favorable rating among registered voters in polling released Thursday, with 39 percent viewing her unfavorably. Among Democrats, those numbers were 79 percent favorable to 15 percent unfavorable.
Clinton led the Democratic primary candidates with 57% support, with Vice President Joe Biden coming in second with 16%. No other Democratic candidate broke 5% support.
Clinton also would lead three possible GOP candidates -- former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.) -- by margins of 14 percentage points. A matchup against Clinton and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, whom she edged 44 percent to 42 percent, could be much closer.
While Governor Chris Christie comes within 2% of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he seems likely to face Republican primary problems as he is more popular with Democrats than Republicans where he comes in behind Rubio with 21% of support from the GOP, Ryan with 16% Huckabee with 15%, tying with Bush and Jindal with 14%.
When both Clinton and Biden were excluded from the Democratic field, 40% of Democratic primary voters would be undecided, with Cuomo and Senator Elizabeth Warren leading.
Thank goodness we can get back to normal with the resumption of presidential polls after this long wallowing in the doldrums since the election.
