we patrol the borders, don't we?
although no one would ever pretend that this was enough to prevent all "unauthorized" border crossings.
we promote driving, while not under the influence, don't we?
although no one would ever pretend that this was enough to prevent all drunk driving deaths.
we require a minimum level of driver knowledge and competence, don't we?
although no one would ever pretend that this was enough to prevent all future vehicle accidents.
so ...
So why in the world wouldn't we require gun owners to be knowledgeable and competent;
even though those simple actions will not prevent all future gun injuries.
so why in the world wouldn't we promote personal gun ownership responsibility and safety;
even though those simple actions will not prevent all future mass shooting deaths.
so why in the world wouldn't we perform comprehensive and thorough background checks -- 100% of the time;
even though no one pretends that will stop all of the mentally troubled, from ever finding and acquiring a gun, illegally. A gun for which they were deemed unqualified and unauthorized "to safely operate."
just because a solution is not perfect,
does not mean that we give up on it entirely. At least for most things it doesn't ...
just because a problem is hard, does not mean we give up on it, and say hey what's the use?
we patrol the borders, don't we?
