When I look at all the Republicans who are claiming that Obama can be impeached for using executive orders to ameliorate gun violence, Edwin "Meathead" Meese is the latest, I can't help but think that he is deliberately stoking this batshit insane response, because it keeps the insanity of the NRA, and its thralls in the Republican Party, front and center:
Former Reagan Attorney General Edwin Meese, now a prominent emeritus official at the Heritage Foundation, became the latest conservative to warn that President Obama could risk impeachment if he takes executive action on reducing gun violence in an interview Monday night.
Speaking with Newsmax, Meese said Congress may have to consider impeaching Obama if he were “to try to override the Second Amendment in any way” with an executive order. He did allow that there are some executive actions related to guns that Obama could take wouldn’t be impeachable.
Seriously, I can understand them saying, "If he does this, the courts will overturn it," but
impeachment? Seriously?
Does anyone agree with me that this actually political Jujitsu by the Obama administration, and he wants this talk of impeachment, because it plays so badly outside of the Republican bubble?
One final question: It is clearly inartful (to put it mildly) to use a metaphor from the Uncle Remus stories with regard to an African American politician. Does anyone have a better term for this?
