Just another example of lazy no-good gummit teat-sucking loafers, I suppose ;-)
"It's kind of in the blood of everyone you see out here – it's in my blood – community service, public service. It's kind of what we do," furloughed worker Scott Mathias said. "It's what you do every day in the office, and when you're not in the office, it's kind of hard to imagine what you should do other than help your community."
This made me smile when I read this the other day, and after searching here first I thought y'all would enjoy reading about these fine examples of public service too.
I didn't know that the RTP (Research Triangle Park, in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of NC) facility is the EPA's largest operation outside of Washington, D.C. Well then.
"I'd rather be able to go to work like everyone else. I'm just trying to take it one day at a time and be positive," Alison Davis said.
The local employees said it's tough not knowing when they will get their next paychecks, but volunteering helps them deal with the stress. They have already set up other projects as the shutdown continues, such as working at the Ronald McDonald House later this week.
Please go read the story!
The comments at the article are mostly positive, with the few folks trying to take a crap on these good people getting a lot of pushback.
I happen to agree with this comment made recently by Omir the Storyteller, one of my favorite Kossacks:
I can almost never read a comments stream
at my local paper's web site without coming away feeling like my IQ has dropped to that of a particularly dimwitted grapefruit. So why do I do it? I don't know. Maybe it's like the guy who pounded his head against a brick wall because it felt so good when he stopped.
[this comment is still reccomendable, BTW ;-)
To all the good folks in the said Triangle Area, I've been swamped by other committments recently, we are going to schedule the inaugural meetup of the
Triangle Area Kosmopolitans soon I hope. If you happen to have good suggestions for a location, do not hesitate to let me know, either in comments, or via kosmail or email (my username at gmail).
And I'd also like to set up a mailing list like we have at the SF Kossacks (of which I am a member emeritus I am proud to say).
Keep on keeping on everyone, and hold firm Dems in DC, dammit!
