My latest LTE to the local newspaper. When one thinks about what the Republican and Tea party goals it boils down to them keeping ordinary working people from seeing the doctor and it does not matter to them how much more it costs the taxpayer and the economy. I know someone is insane here. I must be a Democrat for I keep looking at the facts to make sure it is not me. Well, fuck em. It is them.
Here is the LTE:
Countries that have universal care around the world spend much less per person and much less as a percentage of their GDP. France, which is rated the the best or near the best healthcare system in the world spends close to $4000 as opposed to over $8000 per per person we spend. They spend 11.2% as opposed to the 18% of GDP on healthcare. If we were as good as the French we would spend one trillion dollars less per year on healthcare.
The 35 or so countries rated better on healthcare than us have many different types of systems. Germany and Switzerland us highly regulated private health insurance companies(many rules similar to those in Obamacare), some are single payer and the British have a socialistic system. The one thing they have in common is that if you get sick you can see a doctor. They like Obamacare for the most part encourage preventative care by having no copays for physicals.
Why is this so important? It catches disease early when it is most preventable and less expensive to treat. When millions of people sign up for Obamacare they are going to able to see a doctor. This is going to save billions in healthcare costs. This is the experience of countries with universal healthcare and obvious to anyone except Republicans and especially Tea Party types. When these people talk about the Obamacare train wreck they are correct. It is going to blow away all the lies and deceits the Republican and Tea party types have been telling the the American people for years.
Obamacare is going to work. It is going to bring down the cost of healthcare dramatically. This always happens when sick people can afford to see a doctor. It is going to be a signature achievement for the President and the Democratic party. This why the Republican party and the Tea Party are working so hard to keep ordinary working people from seeing a doctor.
