It takes a lot for America's Dumbest Congressman to impress at this point, but telling the crowd of conspiracy theorists at the Value Voter Summit that fellow Republican John McCain is a supporter of al Qaeda,
now that's taking the crazybull by the crazyhorns:
When it comes to the shutdown that's going on, I heard just before I came some senator from Arizona, uh, a guy that liked Qaddafi before he wanted to bomb him, a guy that liked Mubarak before he wanted him out, a guy that's been to Syria and supported al Qaeda and rebels, but he was saying today the shutdown has been a fool's errand. And I agree with him. The president and Harry Reid should not have shut this government down!
I do love me some Republican-on-Republican violence, which makes up quite a bit for having to listen to Louie Gohmert struggle in his attempt to form coherent thoughts. And there's something special about the new faces of the party—as in, Rep. Louie Gohmert, America's Dumbest Congressman, the man who can stand alongside Steve King and Michele Bachmann and form the perfect triad of Dumb, Mean and Crazy—rejecting the last decade or so of conservative foreign policy choices and mocking the conservatives that held them.
You'll note that the audience applauded Gohmert's overall remarks while giving no particular objections to the notion that the 2008 Republican presidential candidate is in fact someone who has "supported al Qaeda". McCain is persona non grata to this crowd, who are mainly at the conference to listen to conspiracy theories about gay people and how the government is going to be rounding up the good Christian folk any minute now, just as soon as the secret army is prepared. It's gone full lunatic, and that they have welcomed the architect of the greatest public collapse of GOP support in decades as their personal hero and savior succinctly tells you how far from sanity's shores this group has paddled. They haven't liked John McCain for years, but now that he's questioned the wisdom of the Almighty Not-Ours Shutdown (No Backsies), that sends him right into the terrorist supporter bin.
So: Rep. Louie Gohmert just gave a speech in which he said flat out that Sen. John "Sunday News Circuit" McCain supports al Qaeda. That ought to be a hoot. Let's watch how this plays out, shall we?
