This isn't crunch time in the shutdown/debt ceiling crisis. It's winning time.
The bad news for the GOP is getting worse by the day. The party is spiraling into genuine disarray. I'm actually feeling optimistic that the GOP's constant drumbeat of fear, lies, and denial may finally prove to be unsustainable.
This is no time to be timid. The Dems have stood up, and stood strong for a change. It's the kind of discipline the GOP had been famous for sice the days of Tom Delay and Karl Rove. But now it's their turn to splinter. Interesting how little voice the evangelical community seems to have at the moment, to show just one new wrinkle.
I see calls here that it's not enough to simply hold the line against the GOP ransom notes. It's time to counter with conditions that fulfill not only the Democratic agenda, but the actual needs of the country. If we do that, we have the opportunity for an FDR type dominance starting with the 2014 midterms.
So what'll it be: Deal? or New Deal?
