Is the Echo Chamber Starting to Crack? Right Wing columnist attacks the Tea Party.
In Monday’s Washington Post op-ed page, there are two important essays about the Tea Party Republicans, one by E.J. Dionne , “Obama Must Seize the Day,” which as always, is lucid, coherent, and makes a lot of sense, and one by Jennifer Rubin, the right wing columnist, “15 Signs You’ve Drunk the Kool-Aid”. Her Monday column (it was first posted on her blog on the 11th) is different than her usual writing because she calls out the “mass self-delusion that has been going on in right-wing circles,” and here’s just one of her 15 points: #9 “You think Hispanics will never vote for Republicans so there in no use in pushing immigration reform. You think it is fine for the GOP to win elections relying almost entirely on white voters.” She concludes the essay with: “If you answered ‘yes’ to more than half of these, it’s time to rethink your political assumptions.” (The link to the column is below).
I think this is significant because it’s one of the first times I’ve seen a member of the right wing echo chamber do two things: A. Acknowledge that there is a right wing echo chamber. B. Indicate significant problems for the Republican Party in what is circulated as “truth” in the echo chamber.
On her blog the title is: “20 Signs You’ve Drunk the Kool-Aid, in the Print column its “15 Signs You’ve Drunk the Kool-Aid.” She leaves out #4,8,11,12 and 15 in the printed version.
